On my trip to Athens I made this little bird friend! Tony and I were leaving The Grill after lunch and I saw this fledgling grackle sitting under one of the trees. I sat down on the cement wall around the tree and said, "Hi little birdie!" I snapped a couple of pictures but I couldn't get a good shot because he kept coming closer... and then all of a sudden he fluttered over and landed right on my finger!
At first I tried to put him down because I thought he had done it by accident, but he seemed quite happy where he was and he didn't want to leave. I sat there for about 10 minutes holding the baby bird, during which I gained an audience of people asking about the bird and attempting to get him to drink some water from a bottle cap. I also gained a sparrow audience, a couple of them landed next to me and were looking at me rather quizzically. Then the fledgling's mother landed in the tree above my head, and I was certain that I was going to be dive bombed for holding her baby. She didn't seem to mind though, so I put the baby down and he hopped off to join his mommy. Tony got a bunch of pictures of me holding the baby, this is one. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip!  Photo credit goes to Tony, since I'm holding the bird. xD |

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on.
